Replacing a single worn component in isolation may not be enough to restore balanced braking, because linings, drums and slack adjusters wear together and at related rates as a system rather than independently. Fitting new linings against a drum that is already out of round, for instance, produces uneven contact from day one and short lining life all over again within a fraction of the expected service interval, effectively wasting the cost of the new lining. Evaluating the related parts together during the same service, rather than reacting to whichever single component fails or wears out first, is what actually delivers even, predictable braking across all axles over the vehicle’s full duty cycle.
